The Flash Movie Will Indeed Begin Production In February

Even though The Flash has been tearing it up on The CW for the past few years and can achieve much more in the way of character development than a two-hour movie could ever hope, the simple fact of the matter is that the Scarlet Speedster is long overdue for a silver screen adventure to call his own.

Naturally, with the movie side of DC being in a state of flux, one can never be too sure of which of these things will actually see the light of day. On the plus side, we do know that Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984 and Joker are all a lock – and that Birds of Prey will likely arrive hot on their heels – but there are technically not many other guarantees.

As you may recall, we did hear a few days back that The Flash could very well go in front of the lens in February of 2019, a detail that has now been confirmed by Deadline. Funny enough, it was buried in the bowels of their report describing the early specifics regarding the incubating Supergirl movie, but the affirmation is no less appreciated.

Set to star Ezra Miller and be directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night), Barry Allen’s solo outing will no longer adapt the Flashpoint story arc that reshaped the DC Universe in the comics, but rather, focus on the titular hero himself as one would normally expect.

If anything, not having to worry about tying into the grander scheme of things takes a tremendous amount of pressure off the filmmakers, and allows them to create the best picture featuring the Flash possible. Whether or not it ultimately lives up to its potential remains to be seen, but I’d say it may be for the better that Goldstein and Daley not be tasked with what would’ve otherwise been Justice League 1.5.
