In the video, Abrams speaks about shooting key sequences with IMAX cameras and why seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens on these giant screens is so essential:

“That feeling of going to the movies and having a fully immersive, powerful, high-quality presentation of the film is something that is more valuable than ever and I think IMAX stands for that. When you go to see a movie in that format you know you are going to get something that is the best version of going out to the movies.”

As you may already be aware, IMAX cameras are the highest-resolution ones in the world, and only in IMAX theatres will these sequences expand vertically to fill the entire screen with breathtaking image quality for what is described as a truly immersive experience. Of course, whether you can actually get IMAX tickets this close to release is another matter altogether.

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.
