Amid rumors that Deadpool 2 was struggling to leave much of an impression on its test audiences, Fox has now cut through the noise to offer up a much-needed new look at the sequel, no doubt in hopes of turning the tide when it comes to public opinion of the pic.

Yes, after what’s been a rather rough few weeks for the David Leitch-directed sequel, where we heard some not so nice things coming out of those aforementioned test screenings, we’ve now got some more footage to feast on, allowing us to decide for ourselves just how the Merc’s second solo outing is shaping up.

Irreverent, funny and full of action, this is another promising look at the upcoming tentpole, one that’s sure to silence the doubters and ease fears that the Merc was about to succumb to the dreaded sophomore slump. Granted, we won’t know for sure how ‘Pool will fare until later this year, but as of now, we’ve got a good feeling that 20th Century Fox and David Leitch have another hit on their hands.

You’ll also find that today’s sizzle reel is packed to the rafters when it comes to R-rated humor, along with a cheeky nod to Fox’s X-Force team-up movie that has already appointed Drew Goddard to write and direct.

And here’s a reminder of the official synopsis:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Flanked by Domino and Cable – Zazie Beetz and Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin, respectively – Wade Wilson will officially return to our screens on May 18th, and there’s every chance that Deadpool 2 will lay the groundwork for that aforementioned X-Force crossover movie.
