In the new footage, gone are the winter dreamscapes of the hugely successful first movie and in its place is a stormy seaside environment where Elsa braves the waves alone. After spending time in this engrossingly gloomy setting, the teaser’s second half offers a few fleeting appearances from some of the franchise’s other returning players, including Anna, Kristoff, Sven the reindeer, and Olaf the snowman, while the pink skies and autumn trees confirm that the promo art which emerged last month was the real thing.

Though plot details are currently in short supply, the same Russian calendar that revealed the film’s first images also came with a short synopsis, teasing that “Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf are going far in the forest to know the truth about some ancient mystery of their kingdom.” From there, presumably, a dark adventure unfolds.

Of course, at least as important as the story are the film’s musical numbers, with co-director Jennifer Lee mentioning back in the first half of November that four original songs had already been completed for the sequel. No doubt the team is hoping to come up with a collection of compositions as omnipresent as the numbers offered by the first Frozen, from “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” to “Let It Go.” Of course, you can expect those tunes to become as inescapable as ever as we move further into the year, but we’ll find out if Frozen 2 can make an impact in its own right when the film hits theaters on November 22nd, 2019.
