It’s here! After a brief tease yesterday, we can now bring you the full length trailer for the new Oliver Stone film, Savages. Planning to give The Amazing Spider-Man a run for its money (it’s opening within a few days of the new Spidy pic), this explosive thriller from Universal is based on Don Winslow’s novel about drug cartels.
Firstly, let me just say that the film looks great. I love the vibrant visuals and the whole 90’s look that Stone has pulled off here. The action looks great too, a bit over the top and whacky but definitely a lot of fun. The whole thing is actually quite bold but I’m really digging the exaggerated/stylized look of the film. I think audiences are going to be in for a wild ride with this one.
Anyone else reminded of Natural Born Killers when they watch this trailer?
Test screenings have apparently been terrific and the film is said to have a lot of commercial appeal. An Oliver Stone film with commercial appeal, who would have thought?
For those unfamiliar with the film, the edgy thriller will follow “two young, independent Laguna Beach marijuana kingpins (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson) who are blackmailed into working for the Baja Cartel after their girlfriend Ophelia (Blake Lively) is kidnapped and held for a ransom of every last dollar they’ve made for the past five years.”
Savages stars Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Benicio Del Toro, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Demian Bichir, Salma Hayek, Joel David Moore and Emile Hirsch. It will hit theatres on June 6th.
