Just when we thought The Crow was ready to take flight after surviving Relativity Media’s recent bankruptcy – reports even suggested the long-long-gestating project would be jettisoned in front of the cameras this month – The Wrap brings word that production has hit another roadblock.

This time round, it’s director Corin Hardy that has jumped ship. First signing on to helm the troubled project back in 2014, Hardy’s stint on The Crow remake outlasts most other filmmakers that have come and gone – namely Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and F. Javier Guitierrez – but it looks certain producer Dana Brunetti will be hitting the hard reset button for the umpteenth time.

Neither party is yet to release an official statement at the time of writing, but Hardy’s own Tweet from last night really says it all.

Pitched as a reboot of Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic, which then placed Brandon Lee in the title role, The Crow remake first gained steam when director Stephen Norrington began working on it in 2008. Two years later, Norrington backed out of the project, opening up what would become a revolving door for many directors and writers in the years to follow.

It’s a turbulence that has also effected the casting process, too, given that both Luke Evans and then Jack Huston walked before production could begin in earnest.

As Relativity’s new President of Production, though, Dana Brunetti is keen to steer the reboot back in the right direction, with a spokesperson telling The Hollywood Reporter that “with Dana coming aboard, we are giving him full creative rein. We want him to be able to reboot The Crow under his vision and guidance. We are optimistic he will create the best package for such an iconic franchise.”

What do you make of this latest development do The Crow remake? It’s had its wings clipped numerous times, but do you believe the film could still take flight? or are you past caring?
