After months of rumors regarding a possible Wonder Woman appearance in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman, we now have official confirmation that the character will indeed be fighting alongside the titular heroes. And, the actress playing her will be Gal Gadot, who had been rumored for the role in previous weeks.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,” said Snyder in a statement.

Though she isn’t a household name just yet, you may know Gadot from the Fast & Furious franchise as she appeared in the fourth, fifth and sixth instalments of that series. This will no doubt be her biggest credit to date though.

Furthermore, Variety adds that Callan Mulvey is being eyed for the role of an unnamed villain and that we should expect to hear about several other Justice League members making an appearance in the film too. With the cat now out of the bag on who will be playing Wonder Woman, I would imagine that we’ll be receiving additional casting announcements in the very near future.

Batman vs. Superman will hit theatres on July 17th, 2015. Tell us, are you excited to see Gal Gadot taking on the role of Wonder Woman, or is there someone else you would have preferred to see take on the part?
