As part of the ongoing outpouring of sexual harassment allegations that have come to light since the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Brett Ratner is the latest major Hollywood name whose career is now in jeopardy due to his alleged misconduct in the past.
Several actresses, including Olivia Munn have come forward to speak out against the director and recently, Ellen Page revealed that Ratner displayed abusive behavior towards her on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand (something corroborated by her co-star Anna Paquin).
Now, it seems as if these allegations have caused DCEU star Gal Gadot to put her foot down. The actress, who was recently launched to super-stardom thanks to this year’s smash-hit Wonder Woman, is apparently refusing to sign on for the much-anticipated superhero sequel unless Brett Ratner is removed from the project.
The director’s company, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, has produced every DC movie since Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as part of a deal with Warner Bros. Officially, their agreement is due to expire in 2018, but they’re already attached to all future DCEU productions.
If this new report is to be believed, Gadot is demanding that WB buy Ratner and RatPac-Dune Entertainment out, as she doesn’t wish to work on a film that’s being financed by someone known to sexually harass women. Especially since Wonder Woman, both the character and the movie, is all about championing female empowerment.
The actress’ stance has been widely applauded on social media, with many congratulating Gadot on using her Hollywood status to stand up for her fellow actresses, as well as admiring her for potentially putting her career on the line like she is. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that this story has not been verified by the studio just yet, so you might want to take it with a pinch of salt for now.
Either way, Gal Gadot will soon be seen suiting up as Wonder Woman once more when Justice League (also produced by RatPac) arrives in cinemas on November 17th.
