We’ve finally arrived at the start of the summer blockbuster season, meaning that over the next few months, studios will be shoving their tentpoles, franchise starters, sequels, reboots and more down our throats in hopes of bringing in the big bucks. There are certainly a ton of very exciting films coming down the pipeline, from highly-anticipated sequels to intriguing new properties, but with so much to see and not enough time to catch every flick, why not let us help guide you through the over-crowded release calendar by picking out 5 must-see movies that are arriving next month. While all of May is looking pretty promising in terms of releases, the following 5 films should absolutely be on your radar. It’s been a long journey for Mad Max: Fury Road, but the film is finally about to hit theatres and though many people had their doubts about it, Warner Bros.’ excellent marketing campaign has helped to ease those fears. The next instalment in George Miller’s series looks to be an explosive romp through an apocalyptic wasteland that promises a batshit crazy, highly stylized adventure, one that we can hardly wait any longer for. Plus, with talks of a sequel already brewing and leading man Tom Hardy committed to reprising his role, we’re more excited than ever to see where this classic franchise is headed. Horror reboots and remakes are often a gamble, but this upcoming frightfest starring Sam Rockwell is arriving with some positive buzz. Not to mention that the trailers make it look genuinely terrifying. This time around, Monster House‘s Gil Kenan is in the director’s chair, and it’s understood that this modern incarnation will only use the original as a touching point, rather than simply cutting and pasting all of those effective haunted house tropes from thirty years ago. Mind you, Kenan’s reboot of-sorts will still be largely situated within the confinements of one old, haunted house, which looks like a suitably creepy setting for the film. The Rock vs. an earthquake? Sign us up! This upcoming disaster flick featuring Dwayne Johnson promises some good ol’ fashioned popcorn entertainment, as the mega movie star plays a Los Angeles Fire Department rescue-helicopter pilot trying to find his daughter after a massive earthquake hits. With destruction scenes equivalent to what we’d see in a Roland Emmerich film, and larger than life special effects, San Andreas should have no problem getting audiences ready for the upcoming summer blockbuster season. Though it was shrouded in mystery for a very long time, Disney’s marketing campaign for Tomorrowland has peeled back some of the layers on this intriguing new film and we must say, they’ve certainly grabbed our attention. Coming to us from The Incredibles director Brad Bird, this sci-fi mystery appears to be full of imagination and wonder, merging the realms of science fiction and fantasy for what we have no doubt will be a wild ride through an exciting, futuristic world. At this point, what more can we really say about Marvel’s hugely-anticipated sequel? We’ve been inundated with marketing material over the last several months and it seems like almost the entire world is waiting with baited breath to see what the studio has cooked up here. Simply put, Avengers: Age of Ultron is a sequel to one of the biggest movies of all-time and a hugely important film for Marvel, the comic book movie genre and cinema as a whole. Whatever you do, don’t miss this one. Recommended Videos
