The Justice League train continues on full steam ahead today, with even more news emerging about Zack Snyder’s upcoming DC Comics adaptation. After learning a ton of new details about what’s in store for us thanks to some set visit reports and scene descriptions, we now have a bit of casting news to report on.
IGN reveals that Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju has boarded the superhero flick as “an ancient Atlantean king.” From what we understand, he’ll be in possession of one of the Mother Boxes that the Atlanteans have.
Here’s how his role his described:
Eons ago, ancient humans, Atlanteans, and Amazonians came into the possession of three alien Mother Boxes, with each realm hiding one away for the ensuing centuries in order to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. This ancient sequence sounds like the prologue to Lord of the Rings, which described the Rings of Power and the creation of the One Ring. Hivju’s character presumably appears during this ancient hiding of the Mother Boxes sequence.
So, it’s probably a small part then, but it should still be good fun to see Hivju show up here, especially for fans of Game of Thrones. While far from a household name, he’s a dependable talent and we’re looking forward to seeing him join the DCEU, no matter how big or small a role he may have in it.
Justice League hits theatres on November 17th, 2017.
