The one perk to Gangster Squad getting pushed back 4 months is that there has been plenty of time for more promotional pieces for the film. The latest is a new series of beautiful black and white pictures featuring various members of the cast.
Warner Brothers hired photographer Estevan Oriol and got some of the film’s stars together for a pretty slick shoot. Although all the stars aren’t featured, the ones that are look pretty awesome.
With how good these pictures look, it almost makes one wonder whether director Ruben Fleischer should have opted to shoot the entire film in black and white. It certainly would’ve been interesting to see this period piece shot how it would’ve been at the time. That being said, the trailers and previous pictures from the film showcase some absolutely stunning colors on both costumes and the locations, so a color shoot was probably the way to go, especially considering the way Emma Stone’s sexy red dress looks.
Most of the pictures are simply portraits, but a few have some action, including one shot of Michael Peña aiming his handgun at the camera. The image of Ryan Gosling smoking a cigarette stands out purely because of the swirls of smoke, as there’s always something extra mesmerizing about the way smoke looks in black and white.
Gangster Squad hits theaters January 11th, but it might be worth the wait to push it back another couple months and see what Warner can give us in the meantime. On second thought, it’s better if this film gets into theaters as soon as possible.
