An eerie and intriguing poster for The Ides Of March was released today. The upcoming Oscar hopeful pic from George Clooney is set to reveal itself at the both the upcoming Venice Film Festival and TIFF.

The poster above, featuring Ryan Gosling, is actually pretty neat and while I’m not sure why it’s cut horizontally, I do like it quite a bit. They’ve managed to match up Clooney and Gosling’s faces perfectly and while the concept has been done before, this is definitely a good use of it.

The Ides of March takes place during “the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary.” Ryan Gosling plays an up-and-coming campaign press secretary who gets involved in a political scandal that could very well upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.

As promising as the film sounds, I’m not entirely sold on it yet. It’s mostly due to the plot summary, which doesn’t quite have me hooked. That being said, I see Oscar potential written all over this one and I’m more than willing to give it a chance.

Political dramas that peacock for Oscars tend to be very dry, which is why I’m a bit hesitant. Although with the star studded cast, you’d be foolish to not give this film your attention.

George Clooney directs and stars along with Paul Giamatti, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Jeffrey Wright and Evan Rachel Wood.
