By now, it’s public knowledge that George Lucas wasn’t exactly a fan of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He wasn’t happy with how Disney chose to go a different route for the story, as he’d submitted his own treatment which was ultimately discarded. When it comes to Rogue One though, Lucas seems to be much more on board with it. At least, that’s according to the film’s director, Gareth Edwards.
During a press conference held in San Francisco this past weekend, Edwards revealed that he’s shown the upcoming Anthology film to Lucas already and apparently, he “really liked” it.
“So two days ago we got to show George the movie, and we all had a phone call and I got to speak with him yesterday. I don’t wanna put words into his mouth but I can honestly say that I can die happy now. He really liked the movie, so it meant a lot. To be honest, and no offense to anyone here, it was the most important review to me. His opinion means the world to me.”
Lucas isn’t the only one who’s a fan of Rogue One, either. Early reactions have begun to hit the web and it seems that despite those reshoots, everything turned out alright. Some are even calling it the third best Star Wars film ever and placing it above The Force Awakens.
Of course, early reactions can be misleading – as we’ve seen recently with both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad – so we shouldn’t start getting too excited just yet. Still, it’s definitely encouraging to hear and has us hopeful that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will turn out to be yet another fantastic film in the franchise following The Force Awakens.
