Get Out Helmer Jordan Peele Plans To Shoot Original Genre Movie This Year

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jordan Peele, director of Get Out, is plotting his next move: an original genre movie due to begin filming this year.

As Get Out nears its 1st anniversary (catch it in select U.S. theaters today for free), writer-director Jordan Peele is busy plotting his next move.

The filmmaker, who is up for two Academy Awards for his achievements on the 2017 horror hit, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he now plans to fire up production on his Get Out follow-up, an original genre movie of sorts, before the year’s end.

Peele refused to be drawn about specifics, which is only natural given the feature is still incubating in the formative stages of development. However that may be, it’ll seemingly appeal to those who were left impressed (and suitably shocked!) by his work on Get Out.

You know, I think it’s important to focus on stories that are true to me. My next film, I am currently writing it and I’ll direct for Universal this year; I’m just trying to entertain myself again.

Get Out

Peele added that his new venture will resemble Get Out – tonally, at least:

One thing I know is that this is genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun, genre of intrigue is my favorite. That’s my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one.

As things stand, Get Out has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Peele), Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), and Best Original Screenplay (Peele, again) for the 90th Academy Awards, so Jordan Peele’s fierce and timely directorial debut is in with a shot of collecting at least one accolade on Sunday, March 4th – particularly after Daniel Kaluuya (Black Panther) scooped the EE Rising Star Award at last night’s BAFTA ceremony.
