With production getting ready to gear up on Jurassic World 2, Universal Pictures is starting to put together its cast. Returning to reprise their roles will be Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (Black Mirror), and possibly B.D. Wong (Gotham), and joining them will be what looks to be a pretty interesting supporting roster.
We already learnt that Toby Jones (Sherlock) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus) will be on board, and now, The Hollywood Reporter is telling us that Justice Smith will also have a role in the highly anticipated sequel, which is being helmed by A Monster Calls‘ J.A. Bayona.
If Smith’s name sounds familiar, it’s because you probably watched Netflix’s The Get Down this past summer, in which the actor had a large role playing Ezekiel “Zeke” Figuero. His work on the series earned him quite a bit of attention and it seems that he’s now destined for the big leagues with a part in Universal’s upcoming dino flick. We don’t know yet who he’ll play or how heavily he’ll factor into things, but snagging a role in a film like Jurassic World 2 will no doubt do great things for Smith’s career.
As for what we do know about Bayona’s sequel, well, there’s not a lot that’s been revealed just yet. The director has mentioned though that it will “have strong ties” to its predecessor and has even gone so far as to reveal that he’s looking at classic films like The Empire Strikes back for inspiration, hoping to turn Jurassic World 2 into a more scary and suspenseful affair than what came before.
It certainly sounds like Bayona has big plans for the sequel then, and with that March start date quickly approaching, you can expect to hear more on the casting front shortly. Until that happens, though, head on down to the comments section and let us know what you’re hoping to see in Jurassic World 2 when it stomps into theatres on June 22nd, 2018.
