Earlier this month, the word got out that one of the main characters in the upcoming sequel will be a 12-year-old girl with an interest in science. Sure enough, HN Entertainment has now reported of some unearthed audition tapes which reveal that 12-year-old Sarah Abbott has tried out for a part that seems to fit with the previously leaked description. The young Canadian actress is perhaps best known for appearing in the 2017 Black Mirror episode “Arkangel,” and is also set to play a role in the upcoming horror movie The Silence.

Based on what we’ve heard previously, the Ghostbusters character in question has some difficulty “interpreting and expressing emotions and speaks with a flat delivery that make her observations humorous.” Moreover, it’s said that she wants to connect with others, but she struggles with expressing her emotions and interpreting the feelings of her family and friends, and coming from the director of Young Adult and Juno, this all sounds pretty par for the course.

In any case, it’s also rumored that the character will be one of four young leads consisting of two girls and two boys, including a 13-year-old male who’s said to approach every situation with “unbridled excitement for the unknown.” As for whether we might see any familiar faces in the mix, that remains to be confirmed, though at the very least, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd both seem game to return. Regardless, we’ll find out if Ghostbusters 3 can honor the legacy of the original team when the film hits theaters on July 10th, 2020.
