Is it just us, or is Fox’s Deadpool standalone movie turning into a pretty star-studded affair? Alongside leading man Ryan Reynolds, comedy sidekick T.J. Miller and potential villain Ed Skrein, we’re now hearing that Haywire star Gina Carano has joined the movie.
The former MMA star is slated to play Angel Dust. In the Marvel comic storylines, the outlet reports that she “was part of an underground mutant group known as the Morlocks.” While she’s not a household name comic book staple, she might be by this time next year. With Carano in her stride at the moment, her transition to a comic caper ought to be a sight to behold and will no doubt make a solid impression.
After having wrapped work on the Kickboxer remake and the upcoming Bus 652, she’s next set to star alongside Bruce Willis in thriller Extraction. Her slate continues to increase rapidly and it’s no surprise either, as she’s got the acting and action chops to deal with the physicality of her role choices.
Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool is already on many film fans’ 2016 calendars. The first big screen appearance of the character came in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and was delivered by Reynolds in a superb performance. For a time his own spinoff was put on hold, before Fox yielded to demand and greenlit it for release next February.
In terms of story, there’s next-to-nothing that’s been revealed, but, we do know that it’s attracting attention from many big names. Last week, a shortlist hit the web indicating a crop of major actresses all in contention for another key role. Who are they set to play? It’s unknown at this stage, but we’ll keep you posted.
Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg both attached to produce, Deadpool arrives on February 12, 2016.
