The God Of Thunder Prepares To Step Into The Ring In Latest Thor: Ragnarok Image

Empire has relayed an all-new Thor: Ragnarok action shot straight from the sun-scorched plains of Sakaar, and it stars Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder.

It’s the second of three Marvel movies poised to debut in 2017, and it’ll herald the first full-length picture featuring Tom Holland in that iconic suit – if the so-hot-right-now British star turned heads and raised eyebrows in Civil War, just wait until you see what Marvel and director Jon Watts have in store for Homecoming.

Rounding out the studio’s 2017 slate, however, is Thor: Ragnarok. Slotting into a similar release window as Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange – for the record, the mystical origin story went on to become Marvel’s biggest single-character launch, financially speaking – Taika Waititi’s galactic threequel will have the God of Thunder embark on his craziest adventure yet.

Soon after Hela (Cate Blanchett) brings Asgard to its knees, Chris Hemsworth’s Avenger is banished to some far-flung corner of the universe, where he’s forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena aboard Sakaar. It’s here, a million miles from home, that our hero encounters an old frenemy in the form of Mark Ruffalo’s Incredible Hulk. “We know each other! He’s a friend from work.” Cue the fireworks.

Curious to take a peek at Thor suited, booted, and ready to wage war? Empire has relayed a new action shot from the sun-scorched plains of Sakaar, which finds Chris Hemsworth sporting a radical new hairstyle – check it out above. It’s all part of the character’s transformative arc in Thor: Ragnarok, and though the subtitle may spell doom and gloom – Ragnarok gets its name from the Viking apocalypse – based on THAT electric first trailer, there’s a very good chance Thor 3 could write its name in Marvel’s history books as the God of Thunder’s most entertaining adventure yet.

Here’s the updated synopsis:

Thor’s world is about to explode in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. His devious brother, Loki, has taken over Asgard, the powerful Hela has emerged to steal the throne for herself, and Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe. To escape captivity and save his home from imminent destruction, Thor must first win a deadly alien contest by defeating his former ally and fellow Avenger… The Incredible Hulk!

Stripped of Mjolnir and his luscious locks, Thor: Ragnarok looks set to push Marvel’s Norse God close to breaking point, and we can hardly wait to see that arc unfold. November 3rd is the date for your diaries.
