Gods Of Egypt Posters Reveal A Colourful Bunch Of Deities

Back when the cast was announced for The Crow director Alex Proyas' mythological fantasy adventure, Gods Of Egypt, there was quite a bit of backlash stemming from his decision to fill the roles of Egyptian deities predominately with white actors - and it's all kicked off again with the release of these character posters.

Back when the cast was announced for The Crow director Alex Proyas’ mythological fantasy adventure, Gods Of Egypt, there was quite a bit of backlash stemming from his decision to fill the roles of Egyptian deities predominately with white actors – and it’s all kicked off again with the release of these character posters.

Whatever your feelings may be on that matter, there’s no denying Proyas has put a pretty good cast together. We have Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) as Thoth, Elodie Yung (Dardevil season 2) as Hathor, Gerard Butler (300) as Set, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game Of Thrones) as Horus, Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) as Bek and Courtney Eaton (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Zaya.

The character designs themselves, however, are certainly… unusual. I don’t think any of us expected such an array of colourful/camp costumes for this, but perhaps it’ll work in the movie’s favour. We’ll be able to get a better gauge on that when the first trailer is released, which should happen fairly soon.

Here’s the synopsis:

Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.

Gods Of Egypt is set for a February 26, 2016 release.
