With the annual ceremony booked in for January 8, the nominations for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards have been officially unveiled.

Don Cheadle, Laura Dern, and Anna Kendrick were in attendance at the Beverly Hilton Hotel earlier this morning to announce this year’s nominees and unsurprisingly, La La Land, Arrival and Manchester By the Sea have been selected for the marquee Best Motion Picture accolade – across both Drama and Musical/Comedy – extending their trailblazing run-in to the Academy Awards following last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards.

Indeed, for an event that’s so often considered a telling primer ahead of the Oscars, there are some notable surprises – and snubs! – to be found in the official list below. Arguably the most welcome of them all is Deadpool, after the R-rated actioner scored a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Ryan Reynolds himself was also nominated for his cracking turn as the irreverent Merc With a Mouth. Meanwhile, Stranger Things, WestworldAtlanta and The Night Manager headline the ‘big winners’ on the TV sides of things.

When it comes to those titles left out of contention, both Denzel Washington’s Fences and Martin Scorsese’s Silence are nowhere to be seen in the Best Motion Picture categories, but will that have much of a bearing on either film as we approach the Oscar nominations? Time will tell.
