“Hey, you guuuuys!”

If there’s one iconic ’80s movie that could do with the reboot/remake treatment, Richard Donner’s The Goonies would be pretty high up on everybody’s list, right? Though rumors were circulating a few years back of a full-blown sequel to 1985’s beloved comedy-adventure flick, nothing concrete ever came to fruition.

In a recent interview though, actor Sean Astin – who played Mikey in The Goonies – was asked about the possibility of a modern sequel, and here’s what he had to say:

I think we’ve probably passed the threshold for which all of us original cast members are right for doing a sequel.

Even though the chances of an official follow-up to the classic were dismissed by the The Lord Of The Rings star, he did offer fans some hope of a possible reboot, saying:

The audience is so powerful and so devoted to it that I’m absolutely convinced that it will at the very least will be rebooted, which I would be fine with. If it’s not as good as the original Goonies, then okay, who cares, at least it’s out there.

So, there you have it. Clearly, there’s still a ton of nostalgia for iconic ’80s movies like The Goonies as it’s certainly been a major influence on many modern pop culture phenomenons, such as Stranger Things. Not only would a reboot be welcomed by many devout adult fans, but it could also be a project that would help re-introduce a new generation to the loveable gang of misfits.

Of course, the right actors would be absolutely critical to the success of a reboot, for sure. Frankly, we think it could be a very promising project if placed in the right hands. But tell us, what do you think? Would you like to see a Goonies reboot? Or should the crazy gang be left alone in the subterranean depths? Let us know in the usual place down below.
