Green Lantern Concept Art From Justice League Unveiled

Earlier this month heralded the release of WB's mildly successful, supergroup-assembling blockbuster Justice League on Blu-ray and DVD. It wasn’t exactly the box office triumph that the DCEU was expecting, and secretly praying for, seeing as the film was rather unexpectedly bounced from the top spot in only its second week by Pixar’s now Academy Award-winning Coco, but it hasn’t been all downhill for the Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon-directed picture, as its home video release recently ripped the sales crown from the clutches of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Since its journey to Blu-ray and DVD, we’ve been seeing quite a bit of bonus material from the movie, including never-before-seen images and even a few deleted scenes. Now, another previously unreleased treat from the DC tentpole has made its way online, and it will certainly fuel the fire of those, like me, who are antsy for a Snyder cut.

Seen in the gallery below is some concept art which gives fans their best look yet at the Green Lantern who appeared only briefly in the film. The mysterious figure has since been possibly identified by fans through the Warner Bros. All-Access app as Yalan Gur, who first debuted in a 1991 issue and only showed up three times in the DC comic book universe. The issue which told of Gur’s death was the final work published by Green Lantern co-creator Martin Nodell.

There’s been no confirmation from WB as of yet that the Lantern is indeed Yalan Gur, but that hasn’t stopped DC enthusiasts from pleading their cases to the intrigued public. In their efforts to verify the mystery Lantern, those with extensive knowledge of DC history even stumbled upon a quote from Snyder addressing the Green Lantern situation in the film for Collider, which you can read below.

“Geoff [Johns] and I have had a great working relationship, even on Batman v Superman, and on Wonder Woman we worked together really closely, and we have a project coming up that we want to do together. I can’t talk about that. His knowledge of comics is just crazy. He’s like an encyclopedia of comic books. Like I’ll be like, ‘Hey, is there a weird Lantern from –?’ and he’ll be like, ‘You know…!’ He’s just amazing about keeping everything in canon that I’ve not even heard of — he goes, ‘Yeah, it’s back!’ Like we’ll look through some archive. You know, there’s DC-pedia, but he’s even crazier than that.”

The director doesn’t name names here, but he clearly mulled over the idea of including a “weird Lantern” in Justice League, which could of very well been Yalan Gur.
