At only 25 seconds in length, it’s more of a “trailer announcement” than anything else, one designed to stoke the embers of excitement ahead of tomorrow’s big reveal. According to Trailer Track, the promo in question will be attached to The Fate of the Furious this coming weekend, and given how analysts are predicting a suitably huge opening for F. Gary Gray’s blockbuster sequel, Bigelow’s true-life drama will surely generate a metric ton of buzz over the coming days.

Not only that, but Detroit heralds a reunion between the Oscar-winning director and her longtime writing partner Mark Boal, after the pair engineered two edge-of-your-seat thrillers in The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. This latest collaboration is slightly different in that it focuses on a specific moment in history: the infamous Detroit Riots that engulfed the Motor City during the blistering hot summer of 1967. And if that doesn’t scream Oscar potential, we don’t know what does.

Kathryn Bigelow has enlisted an all-star cast, too, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega, Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, Algee Smith, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, MCU stalwart Anthony Mackie, Kaitlyn Dever, Hannah Murray and, more recently, Straight Outta Compton star Jason Mitchell all on board to star.

Annapurna plans to unleash Detroit into U.S. theaters on August 4th. A UK release date is yet to be determined, though it’s likely the studio will nail down international launch plans in the fallout of tomorrow’s big reveal.
