Halloween Horror: Your Guide To Navigating Netflix Watch Instantly This October

Being a devout horror movie addict, October comes with an inherent jubilation that just can't be replicated by other holiday seasons. Thanksgiving brings families together, Easter rests its laurels on religious reflection, and Christmas is about getting some badass gifts (right?), but there's nothing better than an October horror movie marathon.

I’m not really sure how to describe this group of movies, so I just went with “Team Awesome.” These are the movies that rocked my socks and needed a home on this list, so I built them a home where they can safely reside amongst equal company. There’s a little bit of everything here, from ambitious anthologies to horror musicals, because who doesn’t want a little singing and dancing with their devilish horror?

The Cabin In The Woods earns a spot simply because it’s one of the best horror films I’ve seen in years. It’s easily accessible to mainstream audiences and hardcore horror lovers alike, there are twists around every turn, and there are more Easter Eggs than a freakin’ Marvel movie – what makes for a better Halloween watch? You’re Next is another easily accessible film that might not achieve the audacity of The Cabin In The Woods, but Adam Wingard’s home invasion thriller brings triple the intensity. Another great mainstream watch, You’re Next is crafted by genre-lovers who wanted to make one rad horror movie. Mission accomplished.

This one is more of a stretch, but I highly suggest grabbing some beers and some friends for a midnight watch of The ABCs Of Death. Twenty-six directors were given an alphabet letter, $5,000, and their mission was to create the most extravagant death scene imaginable. The results are most certainly varied, but everyone has their own favorites, which makes a group watch featuring different mentalities necessary.

Along the same lines of creativity is The Devil’s Carnival, a horror musical from the guys who made Repo! The Genetic Opera. Taking place at a 60s-style carnival, a few lost souls are given a chance at redemption if they can avoid the temptations of carnival workers who would love to keep them in Hell – like Lucifer himself. The music is solid and performances colorful, again hitting a unique midnight movie vibe.

Here are some more horror flicks that are just flat-out awesome:
