Of course, once The Dark Knight Rises hits theatres next year, things are going to change. For now though, the producers of the Harry Potter franchise can enjoy their new records as they happily count their cash.

The film will surely go on to crack the $1 billion mark as its worldwide gross is already at $476 million. Some are even predicting that it may take over the top spot on the worldwide box office charts, which is currently where Avatar sits, with $2.7 billion.

Personally, I don’t think it will reach that point, especially because we still have a ton of blockbusters that are waiting to be released in the next couple of weeks. Films like Cowboys & Aliens, Captain America: The First Avenger and Rise of the Planet of the Apes will surely take away some of Harry’s momentum.

Whether it goes on to beat out Avatar or not, the film is a bonafide success both critically and commercially and it’s a great to see the Potter franchise go out on top!
