Mere days out from the film’s theatrical release, Bloody Disgusting has conjured up a haunting collection of high-res stills for The Mummy, Universal and Alex Kurtzman’s star-studded reboot that will look to ignite a bona fide franchise on June 9th.

Its name? Dark Universe, an interwoven collection of creature features that will, through time, bring together the likes of The Invisible Man and Frankenstein’s Monster. Dead Men Tell No Tales duo Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem will play each of those iconic monsters, respectively, but in the case of The Mummy, Kingsman breakout Sofia Boutella has been crowned Princess Ahmanet.

Once in line to become a Pharaoh, Boutella’s goddess is robbed of her right to rule by her deceitful father and buried alive within the catacombs of Egypt. Fast forward to the present day and it is Tom Cruise’s military man Nick Morton who stumbles upon said crypt, before accidentally unleashing an otherworldly terror of biblical proportions.

All of this and more is teased through today’s media dump, and you’ll also have the chance to get acquainted with The Mummy‘s supporting players, including Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) and Sgt. Vail (Jake Johnson), in the gallery above. Another key element of the story – both that of The Mummy and the overarching Dark Universe – is Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll. Housed up deep within the bowels of London’s Natural History Museum, Dr. Jekyll is essentially the driving force behind Prodigium, an organization that specializes in the supernatural. He’s well versed in the realm of gods and monsters, then, but those familiar with the material at hand will know that Crowe’s ally (?) will prove to be much more than just a walking vessel of exposition.

Universal will hope to put its best foot forward with the release of The Mummy on Friday, June 9th. Only time will tell if Alex Kurtzman’s fantastical reboot can jump-start the Dark Universe in the way the studio hopes, but make sure you don’t waste your time hanging around after the credits roll in the hope of catching a Marvel-styled teaser, because – spoiler – there won’t be one.
