Hayley Atwell Isn’t Ruling Out A Return To The MCU For Agent Carter

Never forget, Peggy Carter is the first leading lady of the MCU. After stealing the show in Captain America: The First Avenger, Hayley Atwell's kickass British spy went on to helm her own TV show, the tragically short-lived Agent Carter, which was the first time any MCU production had a female main character. After that show ended, Carter returned to the films with a few cameos in the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

After stealing the show in Captain America: The First Avenger, Hayley Atwell’s kickass British spy went on to helm her own TV series, the tragically short-lived Agent Carter, which was the first time any MCU production had a female main character. After that show ended, Carter returned to the films with a few cameos in the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

It’s been two years since the character was last seen, though. Back in Captain America: Civil War, the elderly Peggy passed away, which proved to be a major turning point for her former beau Steve Rogers. Given that she’s now dead, that kind of suggests we’ve seen the last of Agent Carter in the MCU, but her legion of fans are hoping that’s not the case.

What does Atwell herself think of making a comeback, though? The actress was asked this question while chatting with Parade and she revealed that she thinks it’s still a possibility, given how wide-ranging the MCU is and how each movie tends to connect up with the rest of the franchise.

“Because it’s a genre-specific superhero piece, I’m sure anything could happen. It’s such a huge world. I do think there’s something in the completion of the fact that they’re doing their back-to-back Avengers at the moment, which will complete an era, so I can’t see how that would be. But that’s what’s remarkable about Marvel is they keep going. Each film tends to further what they’re doing, so I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Though nothing official has been revealed as yet, there are a couple of upcoming films that potentially could find a place for Atwell as Peggy. Firstly, Captain Marvel is begging for a cameo from the S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founder as it also features other linchpins of the organization like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson. It’s also set in the 1990s, so Atwell could appear in aged make-up as in Ant-Man.

The second contender is Avengers 4, which we believe will rewind through the events of the MCU as our heroes go time-travelling. Set photos suggest that the World War II period could be revisited in the movie as well, which would lend itself to featuring an Agent Carter cameo.

We’ll just have to wait and see if she shows up in the MCU again, but tell us, do you want to see Atwell make a return at some point? Let us know in the usual place.
