Hayley Atwell Continues To Tease Agent Carter’s Return In Avengers 4

Is Agent Carter on her way back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It's certainly looking that way. The first piece of evidence surfaced last month when a casting call for Avengers: Infinity War was revealed. The production was searching for 60s secretaries and engineers, leading many to believe that the character would return via flashback, which is very possible. Now, more fuel has been added to the fire thanks to a recent photo that Hayley Atwell, the actress who plays Peggy Carter, shared on Instagram this week.

Seen in the gallery below, it looks fairly innocent on first glance, right? It’s simply a shot of a book on a table, which isn’t really all that exciting. However, it’s the caption that accompanied the pic that’s got people speculating, as it reads: “Sunny afternoon in Georgia.” As fans will know, that’s the state where Avengers 4 is currently shooting, leading many to believe that the actress is there to film some scenes for the movie.

Of course, this is hardy confirmation that Agent Carter will be seen in the aforementioned flick, or in Infinity War, but given that the latter put out that intriguing casting call we mentioned above and now this – not to mention Atwell’s other suspicious Instagram post from a few weeks back – it is looking likely. Simply put, this new photo from the actress only strengthens our case and at this point, we wouldn’t be surprised to see her show up in one, or even both of the upcoming Avengers movies.

After all, Peggy’s influence within the MCU is vast, given that she has a complex and long history with S.H.I.E.L.D., Howard Stark and Hank Pym – bridging the gap between Captain America, Ant-Man, The Wasp and Iron Man. She’s also the aunt of Sharon Carter, played by Emily VanCamp in the Captain America trilogy.

The recent casting call, indicating the inclusion of scenes set in the 1960s in a scientific setting, strongly suggests that Avengers: Infinity War may well feature a scene or two centred on this vital character. Fan speculation takes things one step further, too, and actually suggests that the involvement of the Time Stone may mean something a little more permanent for the tenacious S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

Chalk that up as speculation for now, but whether she appears in Infinity War or Avengers 4 – or both! – it seems we haven’t seen the last of Agent Peggy Carter.
