Coming to us by way of Entertainment Weekly, below you’ll be able to take a closer look at James Wan’s underwater spectacle in all its glory, and there’s even a shot of the horror maestro directing a scene with Mera (Amber Heard), Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and another Atlantean on what appears to be a sunken ship. Mera’s wig looks a little ropey, but we’re inclined to give Aquaman‘s hair and makeup team the benefit of the doubt until we see Warner’s DC epic in motion.

That won’t be very long, mind you, given there’ve been rumblings that Aquaman‘s debut trailer will be online tomorrow, June 15th – or, failing that, the beginning of next week. Whatever the case, EW’s ongoing coverage is perhaps the perfect primer for Warner’s big reveal, and you’ll be able to get acquainted with most, if not all of the film’s major cast members down below.

Among those profiled are Arthur’s unhinged half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson), who plots war against the surface world – do we sense some parallels with Black Panther‘s Killmonger? – along with Aquaman’s mentor, Vulko (Willem Dafoe). Nicole Kidman’s regal Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) also gets a shout-out, as we see her shield what can only be the young Arthur Curry.

Fast forward to the present day, and you’ll also see Arthur setting foot on dry land with Mera (Amber Heard), and we imagine their quest has something to do with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta – even if they don’t really know it yet.

Aquaman officially lights up theaters on December 21st, and will be thrust into the middle of a three-way grudge match involving Bumblebee: The Movie and Alita: Battle Angel. Who wins? You decide.
