Helen Mirren & Colin Firth Pack Their Bags For The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Sequel

Way down on the list of unexpected sequels we never thought would get made, the follow-up to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - a film that proved the elderly also like the cinema after it somehow grossed $130 million on a $10 million budget - might get two new cast members in the much younger Colin Firth and looks-amazing-for-her-age Helen Mirren: the Oscar-winning pair are apparently in negotiations to star and are "likely" to join the ensemble, an ensemble which shares an average age of around 79.

Way down on the list of unexpected sequels we never thought would get made, the follow-up to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – a film that proved the elderly also like the cinema after it somehow grossed $130 million on a $10 million budget – might get two new cast members in the much younger Colin Firth and looks-amazing-for-her-age Helen Mirren: the Oscar-winning pair are apparently in negotiations to star and are “likely” to join the ensemble, an ensemble which currently shares an average age of around 79.

Considering the unexpected success of the original film, it’s no surprise that Fox are eager to get pensioners back out to the “talkies” – John Madden, who helmed the first movie, is set to direct this one too, assuring even more antics from a vintage cast whose characters are unafraid to wander exotic locales, unleashing their old-fashioned opinions and casual racism upon the younger generation without a second thought.

Though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’s probable that Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith will return to their roles, otherwise the first ten minutes of this sequel – in which several funerals are attended in quick succession – is sure to suck the fun out of proceedings.

What do you think, anyway? Should Colin Firth attach himself to a movie like this? Is Helen Mirren‘s presence sure to attract even more viewers? Let us know in the comments section below.
