It’s a good week for moviegoers everywhere. After giving us the second trailer for 2012’s most anticipated film, The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. has gone ahead and given us another Christmas present, this time in the form of a trailer for what could be 2012’s second most anticipated film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Like The Dark Knight Rises, a trailer really can’t do this film justice, as we all know that we’re going to get an absolutely incredible movie, on all levels. Despite the somewhat troubled production of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, I really do think that Peter Jackson will deliver. And if you still have doubts, do yourself a favor and go back and watch his Lord Of The Rings trilogy, it’s an absolute masterpiece.
As for the trailer, there’s really nothing to complain about, which is what I expected. Yes, it’s a bit slow and doesn’t show off much action but remember, the film is still a long ways away. What we get here is more a look at all the characters and some absolutely gorgeous shots of Middle Earth, which Jackson looks to have recreated wonderfully. Fans will notice a number of locations from the book and they all look fantastic.
Overall, I’m excited and why wouldn’t I be? With any other director I’d have some concerns but with Jackson at the helm, I literally have no worries. He knows the source material and he knows the world of Middle Earth better than anyone, except perhaps Tolkien himself. While I can see some people being let down by the trailer, I’m perfectly satisfied with what is here.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey stars Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly and Stephen Fry and will be released on December 14, 2012.

“The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug.
