Nipping at the heels of this morning’s poster reveal, writer-director James Gunn has now lifted the lid on the official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser trailer.
It’s a “special sneak peek,” according to Gunn, who took to Facebook to confirm that “the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer will be coming in not too long, but we know how thirsty you guys are for a glimpse.” Well, he did promise something before the year’s end – and boy, did he deliver.
Even at one minute and 26 seconds in length, the sizzle reel crams in plenty of content to digest, and it’s all set against the iconic chords of “Hooked On A Feeling.” James Gunn’s Guardians may not have an official theme song per se, but Blue Swede is a pretty damn good substitute.
From the deft ooga-chakas to the slow-motion shots of Star-Lord and Co. walking in a woodland area, the action continues to build and build, ending with a crowd-pleasing shot of Rocket Raccoon grinning at the camera with a Baby Groot perched on top of his shoulder. Hey, it’s basically a role reversal from the first movie.
We’re also pleased to report that Drax’s social parlance remains as archaic as ever, as we see Dave Bautista’s hulking hero embrace Peter Quill against his will after delivering some Wednesday wisdom: “There are two types of beings in the universe; those who dance, and those who do not.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will whisk moviegoers off on a whole new adventure on May 5, 2017. Embedded below is the sequel’s stylish first poster, which rounds up James Gunn’s ragtag crew of freaks and geeks – Baby Groot included.
