Another day, another Avengers 4 theory to deconstruct.
And so, after entertaining the possibility that Infinity War opened up a tear in the MCU timeline, CBR has pieced together a new and rather intriguing fan theory which suggests the Incredible Hulk may well become an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. during Avengers 4.
All of this stems from the leaked piece of concept art from earlier this month (see below), which showed the hero decked out in some sort of battle armor. Assuming that artwork is official, and Bruce Banner is poised for another major upgrade, it could well signal an adaptation of Marvel’s Professor Hulk storyline or, as CBR suggests, Mark Waid’s “Indestructible Hulk” from 2013, in which the Jade Giant agrees to work for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Out of the two proposals, that appears to be the more likely scenario, as Professor Hulk is more associated with a Marvel super-team known as the Pantheon and frankly, after 10 years and (almost) 20 movies, it’s far too late in the game to introduce a new ensemble into Phase Three.
So let’s assume that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been reborn in the aftermath of The Winter Soldier, and Nick Fury and Maria Hill were indeed on the job during the post-credits scene for Infinity War. If that’s the case, then there’s a good chance Bruce Banner will enlist in the organization as he attempts to bring Thanos down to size.
Remember, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will need to acquire some sort of time-traveling device in order to journey back to the past, and we imagine S.H.I.E.L.D. will come in pretty handy in that regard. Not only that, but Mark Ruffalo was recently spotted on set in full mo-cap gear. And by his side? Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, whose black battle gear bore a striking resemblance to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s outfits. Cue the speculation.
Avengers 4 opens big on May 3rd, 2019.
