Set to arrive in little over a month’s time, a new and extended TV spot has surfaced online, showcasing the terror that awaits beyond the doors of the supermarket. For in Sausage Party, anthropomorphic nibbles dream of leaping off the shelves and into shopping carts, oblivious to the fact that they all face imminent death.

Bizarre, yet oddly endearing, our own Matt Donato caught a work-in-progress version of Sausage Party, heaping praise on the movie’s irreverent tone and barrage of food-related puns.

Among the cast enlisted to bring Rogen and Goldberg’s oddball comedy to life are Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Michael Cera, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek.

Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon will stage a Sausage Party when the directors’ wonderfully weird — and decidedly R-rated — animation checks into theatres on August 12.

Life is good for all the food items that occupy the shelves at the local supermarket. Frank (Seth Rogen) the sausage, Brenda (Kristen Wiig) the hot dog bun, Teresa Taco (Salma Hayek) and Sammy Bagel Jr. (Edward Norton) can’t wait to go home with a happy customer. Soon, their world comes crashing down as poor Frank learns the horrifying truth that he will eventually become a meal. After warning his pals about their similar fate, the panicked perishables devise a plan to escape from their human enemies.
