One person who’ll factor heavily into both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars is Anthony Mackie, which is a given seeing as he was recently anointed as the MCU’s new Captain America, with Brave New World coming to theaters next year. However, in an interview with Inverse, he didn’t exactly paint an encouraging picture of his familiarity with the storyline that’s driving half a decade of film and television content.

“I’m still trying to figure out the Marvel-verse, or whatever. I don’t know. I don’t even know what the multiverse is. Dude, I have no idea what it is. I’m still trying to figure that sh*t out.”

Having been a staple part of the series for a decade and made countless appearances during that time, it’s strange to hear somebody as pivotal to the MCU as Captain America himself admit he’s clueless when it comes to branching timelines, alternate realities, incursions, and all the rest. Then again, it’s not really a surprise at all given Marvel’s famed levels of secrecy.
