‘I dreamt all my life to work with him’: ‘The Flash’ director gushes over a Hollywood legend as he drops bombshell spoiler

He couldn't keep it under his hat for three more weeks?

We’ve just got three more weeks to go until The Flash finally races into theaters, but it seems the film’s director just couldn’t wait that long before discussing his excitement over a certain Hollywood heavyweight he got to work with on the DC movie. We’ve known all along that Michael Keaton is back as Batman in the Ezra Miller vehicle, but now it’s been 100 percent confirmed that a 1990s superhero icon we almost had will cameo too.

Spoilers incoming!

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, director Andres Muschietti said more than maybe he should’ve done at this stage by admitting that, yes, Nicolas Cage is in The Flash as his never-before-seen incarnation of Superman. The Renfield star is one of the most famous near-miss comic book castings ever, thanks to 1998’s cancelled Superman Lives… A movie almost directed by Keaton Batman creator Tim Burton.

“Nic was absolutely wonderful,” Muschietti said, when gushing over his collaboration with Cage. “Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”

After 25 years, the Nic Cage Superman lives! While it’s pretty shocking that Muschietti decided to spoil this mind-blowing cameo now, to be fair to him, it’s been something of an open secret for a while thanks to various rumors and reports pointing to it being on the cards. While this marks Cage’s first time playing the Man of Steel in live-action, he did previously voice the character in 2018’s Teen Titans GO! To the Movies!.

It’s going to be hard to top Cage finally flying by as Superman, but with any luck, Muschietti’s decision to spoil this cameo means that there are plenty more, maybe even more shocking, ones to come when The Flash releases on June 16.
