‘I wouldn’t do it if it was just some sort of hokum’: He might be 77, but Brian Cox still wants to become an action hero

Despite his career stretching back over 50 years on stage and screen, Brian Cox is arguably at the apex of his popularity right now, and it’s all thanks to Succession.

The famously curmudgeonly Scotsman stole every scene he was in as instant TV icon Logan Roy, who weaponized the use of the phrase “f*ck off” to majestic new heights that could even rival Samuel L. Jackson’s almost poetic use of the term “motherf*cker”. At 77 years of age, you’d think he might want to take it easy for a while, but Cox has the exact opposite idea.

In an interview with MovieWeb, it was half-jokingly suggested that he try his hand at heading down the Liam Neeson route to become an elderly ass-kicker. Fantastically, though, Cox was entirely on board with the idea, and now we need somebody to put him in a leather jacket and have him start throat-punching bad guys as soon as possible.

“I’m all for expanding, going into new territory. I mean, to be a 77 year-old action star might be something quite interesting to do. You know, I’m not against it. I’m not against that at all. In fact, I’m very glad you brought it up, because I’m really not against that at all. I’ve often thought, ‘Oh, I could maybe do all that.’ But I haven’t done it because it’s just been a different world. But if I would do it, it’d only be if it was a great script. I wouldn’t do it if it was just some sort of hokum.”

Let’s be honest; Cox is only a year or two older than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, who’ve hardly given up on running and gunning into their mid-70s. If Logan can deliver one of the best superhero movies ever made, then put him front-and-center of his own version called Logan Roy, and just watch the sparks fly.
