Idris Elba Wanted For Pacific Rim

The Wrap is reporting that the often under-appreciated, yet undeniably talented Idris Elba is being sought for Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific Rim. Legendary Pictures is apparently interested in the actor and is looking at him for a role in the film, although that can mean a lot of things and is in no way confirmation.

Elba, who is currently filming Prometheus, is experiencing something of a breakout right now. While he’s been around forever, the actor has always been known for his role as Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire. Now though it seems as if his acting chops are starting to receive more recognition.

He starred in Thor last month and as mentioned before, he’s currently filming Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. Along with Pacific Rim, the actor is also being sought for another high profile film, Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained. So yes, it’s been something of a good year for the actor.

I’ve been an Idris Elba fan ever since I saw him on The Wire. He’s a fantastic actor who just doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Hopefully that will start to change though. I’d love to see him star in Pacific Rim, despite it not being the lead role (that went to Charlie Hunnan). It’s a high profile film and along with Prometheus, it may help push him closer to the A list, which is where he deserves to be.
