If there’s one thing we can all agree on about ‘Rebel Moon,’ it’s Ray Fisher being vindicated

And playing a character named Darrian Bloodaxe is just icing on the cake.

He may be the messiah of one of the most insufferable fandoms in history, but one really has to give Zack Snyder credit where credit is due. As far as creative minds go, his is perhaps one of the most intriguing in the realm of cinematic genre fiction, and the gumption with which he tackles his ambitious ideas is something to be admired, even if the end result is a pain in the neck.

All this to say that watching Rebel Moon unfold will be infinitely interesting, regardless if it ends up being any good or not. The mere fact of Snyder entering the space opera playground is sure to yield a talking point or two, however contentious they’ll probably be.

But there’s one indisputable positive of Rebel Moon, and that’s Ray Fisher, who deserves all the vindication in the world after the way he was treated by the old guard of DC Films and the notoriously unscrupulous Joss Whedon.

Indeed, after Snyder clowned on Whedon by releasing his cut of Justice League, in which Fisher proved himself as a scene-stealer despite Whedon’s insistence to the contrary, it’s nothing short of poetic that the Cyborg actor is getting the chance to make another memorable mark under Snyder once again. The cherry on top of it all is the fact that Snyder’s gifted him a character with one of the most badass names in cinematic history; guerrilla insurgent Darrian Bloodaxe.

We can only hope that the rest of Rebel Moon can measure up to the justice-laden nuances of Fisher’s inclusion, even if merely diving into a brand new side of genre fiction’s most elusive auteur is a big draw in its own right.

Rebel Moon will release to Netflix on Dec. 22.
