Thanks to The Flash and its litany of cameo appearances – virtually of which have been ruined weeks ahead of release for all but the most ardent of the spoiler-averse – the doors to the DCU’s multiverse have officially been blown wide open.
Obviously, there are no guarantees the rest of the franchise will pick up from where the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut left off by dealing in alternate realities and fractured timelines. After all, co-CEO James Gunn made a noted point of avoiding the overarching beats of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so there’s always the chance The Flash will be a one-and-done exercise used to reset the shared mythology.
And yet, even the stars of the infamous Batman & Robin have voiced their desire to make the most unexpected of comebacks, with Alicia Silverstone admitting to IndieWire that she’s game for a return as Batgirl.
“If somebody wants me to play Batgirl, and they’re incredible, I’m in.”
Of course, even mentioning the word “Batgirl” out loud is enough to cause pain among many DC die-hards who still can’t reconcile with Warner Bros. abandoning Leslie Grace’s near-completed first outing as Barbara Gordon for the sake of a tax write-off, and that fury would hardly subside were the role played by somebody who’d already done it before in one of the worst comic book adaptations of all-time.
Then again, everyone deserves a second chance, and it wouldn’t even be the wildest cameo based on what we know about The Flash.
