There’s an old expression that goes, “Evil never dies,” and never is that more true than if you’re in a horror sequel. So in that spirit, this fall we’ll be treated to the return of one horror cinema’s most beloved unstoppable killing machines, Chucky.
It’s been 25 years since the release of Child’s Play, the film that introduced us to Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer who cursed himself to possess a “Good Guy Doll” named Chucky after he was mortally wounded in a gun fight. Timely for this occasion, the latest Child’s Play movie, the sixth in the series, is being released to DVD this fall, and IGN and Bloody Disgusting have the first promotional shots from the film.
In Curse of Chucky, the possessed doll plagues a new group of innocent people. Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, while Dourif’s daughter Fiona (True Blood) stars as Nica, the film’s heroine whose family is the target for Chucky’s latest course of revenge. Summer H. Howell plays Fiona’s Niece Alice who’s the unlucky recipient when Chucky mysterious turns up on the family’s doorstep in a plain, brown, unmarked package. (One would think they’d know better about opening such a package in this day and age, but I guess if they didn’t, there would be no movie.)
Unlike the previous two chapters, Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, this latest film will be more of a straight-up horror film and less of a horror-comedy. Additionally, it looks like Chucky’s significant other Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) and his son Glen (Billy Boyd) will be sitting out this chapter. Don Mancini, who has written and produced all previous Chucky movies and directed Seed of Chucky, is in the director’s chair again for this latest film.
