With just over a month until its U.S. release, today we have some brand new images for one of this year’s most anticipated films, John Hillcoat’s Lawless. The prohibition drama is Hillcoat’s first project since his adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road back in 2009 and it features an all star cast that boasts names like Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman.
The photos, like everything else we have seen so far, look fantastic and the reviews for the film when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year were all great as well. Hillcoat’s raw, western-type style is very evident in the photos, with the costumes and production values looking absolutely perfect.
For those not familiar with the film or the novel that it was based on (The Wettest County In The World), check out the plot summary below.
“Lawless is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel The Wettest County in the World, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Lawless is being distributed by The Weinstein Company who, despite the August release date, may try to make a push with the film come awards season.
Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska and Jason Clarke will star and the release date is set for August 31st, 2012.
