A fan took to the r/MarvelStudios subreddit to stir the pot with an ominous prophecy that the addition of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) to Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) storyline will lead to box office doom.

However, not everyone was on board with OP’s thesis. Another Redditor countered that the writers could introduce more superheroes without confusing MCU fans who may not have seen Ms. Marvel and WandaVision.

Another fan pointed out that Captain Marvel (2019) earned a mouthwatering $ 1.13 billion at the box office. They argued that people misjudged the audience’s desire for more female superheroes.

The wheels started to come off OP’s argument pretty quickly, as MCU fans did not take kindly to having their comprehension skills undervalued.

Another Redditor suggested that OP revisit other MCU films as a reminder of their outstanding ability to bring fans up to speed.

Some fans argued that the fact that Kamala considers Captain Marvel a role model makes their alliance a no-brainer. They also did not see any complications in explaining Monica’s role in the powerful trio.

Finally, a Redditor almost agreed with OP as they suggested The Marvels might not live up to the enormous earnings of Captain Marvel and pointed to several sequels that were successful but lagged behind the box office success of their predecessors.

The Marvels promises to be a trailblazing MCU movie. The film’s director, Nia DaCosta, is the first Black woman to direct a Marvel movie. She is also the youngest director in the Marvel Studios’ roster.

The Marvels is scheduled for release on Nov. 10.
