Finally! The forever untitled Benedict Cumberbatch WikiLeaks movie has finally had the curtain pulled back on it. For some time now the film has been shrouded in secrecy. We didn’t have any stills, a title, a release date, nothing. Today though, that all changed as DreamWorks has given revealed some new info about the much anticipated film.
For one, we have an image above that shows Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Bruhl as his right hand man, Daniel Domscheit-Berg. I’ve been eager to see how Cumberbatch would look in the part and I must say, he’s a pretty good match for Assange.
Next, we finally have a title for the film, and the title that the studio is going with is The Fifth Estate, and it is set for a November 15th release date. Though that puts it in prime position for Awards season, it will have to battle with Thor: The Dark World and The Hunger Game: Catching Fire, which both come out around the same time.
Lastly, we’re hearing that Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis and Peter Capaldi have joined the cast, which already includes Cumberbatch, Bruhl, Laura Linney, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice Van Houten.
Filming is currently underway so expect more on this one soon but for now, it’s shaping up pretty nicely. From what I can tell, it seems like it will be a fascinating look at the ultra controversial organization and its very outspoken leader. I have no doubt that DreamWorks has Oscar hopes for this one and from what we know so far, I would have to agree with them.
What do you think? Does The Fifth Estate look interesting to you? Are you excited to see Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role? Can you already smell the awards? Let us know in the comments below.
