While we wait in anticipation for this weekend’s D23 event – one which will herald new footage for both Captain America: Civil War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens – an international TV spot for J.J. Abrams’ galactic sequel has found its way online.
Assembling various stings from the two teaser trailers already out in front of public eyes, there’s not much to report in terms of new footage; though there is a rather impressive establishing shot of the droves of Stormtroppers and TIE Fighters brought together by Kylo Ren and The New Order. Aside from that, the sizzle reel contains action shots of the Millennium Falcon in Jakku (perhaps this is the film’s sole IMAX sequence?), Daisy Ridley’s scavenger Rey, and a brief cameo by the new droid on the block, BB-8.
Set a full 30 years after the fallout from Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will see new threats emerge from the Dark Side, spearheaded by Adam Driver’s aforementioned Sith Lord. Whether this awakening will revolve around Luke’s wayward lightsaber is still up for question, though we do know that Rey and John Boyega’s disenfranchised Stormtropper Finn will act as major players in the tussle against The New Order. Heck, there’s even a shot of the pair entering the Falcon alongside Han Solo and Chewie in last month’s Comic-Con reel.
The Force Awakens will bring together Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie as the badass Chrometropper.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will mark the beginning of a new era in Lucasfilm’s adorned space opera when J.J. Abrams’ sequel opens on December 18. Disney’s D23 event will take place from August 10 to August 14, and we’ll have all the coverage for you right here.
