Is it that time of year already? Iron Man 3 rumors? Yup, you better believe it, Marvel’s upcoming superhero pic is starting to build some momentum. And speaking of momentum, we have some news on another one of Marvel’s forthcoming blockbusters, The Avengers. Iron Man 3 first though.

So, what exactly is Tony Stark’s third outing going to revolve around? Well, Latino Review tells us that Iron Man 3 will revolve around “an idea planted in Tony Stark’s head by Captain America in The Avengers” and the idea will be “represented by the use of nanobots” in the film. In other words, the plot of Iron Man 3 will be directly influenced by the plot of The Avengers. No surprise there.

As for The Avengers, Mr. Joss Whedon has been doing the promotional run for The Cabin In The Woods and he recently spoke to Collider on whether we can expect to see a director’s cut of The Avengers on the Blu-Ray.

No [there won’t be a director’s cut on the DVD]. I… believe very strongly in putting the director’s cut into the theaters. I believe that the director’s cut is the best movie for the studio and the best version of the movie for the audience.

My first cut was three hours long and it’s now down to 2 hours and 15 minutes, and I’m extremely proud of that. I had always intended to go over two, under two and a half. There was no way a movie with this many great actors and this much epic scope was gonna clock in under two and not feel a little anemic, somebody wasn’t gonna get their moment if that happened. But at the same time, I get very angry that romantic comedies run over two hours long, it’s like ‘Guys, that’s not okay.’ More isn’t more. I don’t want anything in the movie that shouldn’t be.

Whedon has a good point but at the same time, I would have been fine sitting through 3 hours of The Avengers, with that many characters there would have definitely been enough footage to keep things exciting. As it is I have a feeling that the film will feel too crammed and stuffy. A couple characters will surely be shafted.

What do you think? Does Iron Man 3 sound interesting? Would you have sat through a 3 hour cut of The Avengers?
