The Avengers has made over $1.3 billion worldwide and it is still going strong. To say that Marvel’s follow up film, Iron Man 3, has a lot to live up to would be an understatement.

From everything we know so far though, the film seems promising and while no footage has been released as of yet, we now have the first set photo courtesy of Marvel.

Iron Man 3 started production last month in North Carolina with Raleigh and Durham being used for filming locations, before the production moves to Miami and finally, China.

The set picture sees Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark looking at the Iron Man suits from the previous movies, while in the foreground are scattered parts in his lab. There is no major plot reveal here and admittedly, the picture doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on but it’s still exciting to see an official image from the film and it’s also nice to see that director Shane Black is paying respect to the previous entries.

Iron Man 3 is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2013 with Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltow, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau respiring their roles. There are also several new members joining the cast, they include Guy Pearce, Andy Lau, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.
