We’ve known for some time that Sony is prepping an all-female Ghostbusters reboot, with the likes of Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy and Jennifer Lawrence in contention to don the famous proton packs for director Paul Feig. But according to leaked emails from the company, this isn’t the only film that’s in the mix at Sony, who are reportedly planning a spinoff movie that would star Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum.

Billed as a separate film entirely, the proposal is much more than just an off-kilter notion, as Hannah Minghella — Columbia Pictures’ co-president of production — proved in a message to some fellow executives.

So… in a curious turn of events – the Russos and Channing want to develop Ghostbusters as a vehicle for Channing and Chris Pratt to do together…The Russos, Channing and Reid have been brainstorming ideas and want to create a whole new mythology that would support multiple movies (the way that Nolan reinvented Batman). To be clear – the Russos want to produce (not direct) and while Channing and Chris are looking for a movie to do together they haven’t mentioned this to him yet because they weren’t sure how we’d react.

If this plan comes to fruition, then the spinoff would be handled by Joe and Anthony Russo — who shot to the top of the most-wanted directors list after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Still, given that the filmmaking siblings are all but confirmed to direct Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II, they will certainly have a lot on their plates should they choose to push ahead with this Ghostbusters spinoff — even if they are only on board as producers.

Mind you, considering the fact that Sony has even given time to the idea of a Men in Black-Jump Street crossover bonanza, we wouldn’t get too excited about the idea of a Ghostbusters spinoff at the moment.
