Is ‘Superman: Legacy’ live-action?

The highly anticipated DCU reboot is a long way away.

Ever since James Gunn announced Superman: Legacy would be the cornerstone of his new relaunch of the DCU, hype for the film has been off the charts. People wondered which actor would replace Henry Cavill, who had been the DCU’s Man of Steel since. Others wondered what the new film meant for other existing franchises within the current iteration of the DCU and whether actors like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Gal Gadot would be hanging up their capes for good. While we’ve got answers for some of these questions — David Corenswet would be the actor to play this new Superman, and things aren’t looking so promising for the current Black Adam and Wonder Woman — some mysteries remain.

While big strides are being made in casting for the film (Nathan Fillion was just announced as a version of Green Lantern), we’re still a long way off from seeing the movie on the big screen. Superman: Legacy is slated for a 2025 release, and no matter how fast this year seems to be flying by, that’s still a good two years from now. However, we can expect more details to emerge in the coming years. While we already know some key information about the film, such as whether it will be entirely animated or a live-action production, there’s still plenty more to discover.

Even if you feel a certain way about special effects, Superman: Legacy is definitely a live-action film

Superman: Legacy is going to be a live-action film. In an exclusive report from Vanity Fair, the publication broke three new casting decisions and confirmed the new film is “the movie that will mark the live-action rebirth of the DC Universe.” There’s yet to be a trailer (the film’s gotta be filmed first!), but we know this isn’t an origin story. Gunn has stated the film will follow Clark Kent during his early days working at the Daily Planet.

As mentioned earlier, Corenswet will play the Man of Steel himself, and Rachel Brosnahan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will play Lois Lane. Additionally, Isabela Merced (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) will be playing Hawkgirl (not the same as Hawkwoman), and Nathan Fillion will be playing the Green Lantern, though not for the first time. The last casting decision announced today was that Edi Gathegi, who’s known for playing the vampire Laurent in the Twilight series, and Darwin in X-Men: First Class, will be playing the superhero Mr. Terrific.

There’s still much to uncover about this highly anticipated film, and we can’t wait to see what surprises await us in the world of the Man of Steel.
