It looks like there will be plenty of Mario Kart in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

Get ready for more high-speed action than you bargained for.

The end of one of the first The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailers which dropped a few months ago appeared to “hint” that there will be some Mario Kart action happening in Illumination and Nintendo’s upcoming film, but the final trailer which was just released seems to indicate that it’ll be more than just an easter egg, but a more pronounced action sequence.

While all we got in the first wave of trailers was just a shot of Mario and friends cruising down Rainbow Road, the final trailer showed us there is plenty of karting action to come in the upcoming film.

In fact, the entire back half of the trailer gave an extended look at a huge action-packed karting sequence (or perhaps more), in which Mario, Peach, and Toad take off from a large hangar and end up being pursued by Bowser’s various minions. There’s shells being thrown around, and Mario even does a textbook action-hero vehicle swap.

While The Super Mario Bros. Movie has looked promising from day one, the big question-mark box hanging over the film’s head has been Chris Pratt’s role as the titular plumber – but it would appear that people have started warming up to the Guardians of the Galaxy star’s take on the beloved Nintendo mascot, if you can believe it.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hops, bops, and swerves its way into theaters on April 5, 2023.
